ASK PARTICA COVER

We’re stoked to introduce our monthly column, #AskPartica, a community-wide Q&A where the underground bass music world’s hottest producers answer any and all of YOUR questions. This month, we’re highlighting some of the artists off our current album, like KIN, bd hbt, KUREI, and more!

"WHAT edm sub-genre genre/style do you think will most evolve in 2020?"

KIN: Halftime and freeform are probably gonna evolve the most. I feel like they have some of the least “rules” persay

bd hbt: Personally, I think Trap is going to be the sound of 2020. Most genres have already had their “second time coming” except for trap, and acknowledging the recent music trends, I would say that is the best bet.

kurei: Below The Surface, and Myopic Sounds too. Everyone involved [with both labels] are so forward thinking and always looking to push boundaries in any ways we can. I see tons of growth and potential with those guys.

"HOW TO MAKE DRUMS? ANY DRUM SYNSTHESIS TECHNIQUES?"

KIN: I don’t synthesize drums personally, just get a bajillion packs and you probably will have all the options you need

bd hbt: CUT THE LOW END OUT OF YOUR SNARE. People don’t do this enough and don’t seem to realize how much room it give you in the mix.

kurei: Drum synthesis is something I’ve just recently gotten really into! It’s a whole different sound design beast in my opinion, but I’ve found that layering is one of the main keys for making snares. to me, I like using operator for the main hit, then I’ll make like a small pluck sound and process/resample it, then go and add some layers like noise, or some foley to give it some more texture. After that, I’ll glue compress all those together to make it feel like one cohesive sound.

WHAT DO YOU DO TO CREATE A PERSONAL TOUCH TO YOUR MUSIC?"

KIN: Most of my influence directly stems from hip hop. So I feel most of my musics sound stems from my drum choice.

bd hbt: Stay true to your style. Genuinley make the music YOU want to hear and represents YOU the most, and people will love it. It’s the tried and true’d formula that never fails.

kurei:  I feel like my personal touch really comes thru in the composition, I love using space and letting things breathe, also if ya listen real close I almost always swap my snares throughout my drops

"WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE ACTIVITY WHEN YOU'RE NOT PRODUCING?"

KIN: Man I’m tryna go pro in Tekken FR fr. So if anybody tryna trade Tekken lessons for production I’m bout it.

bd hbt: Listening to Music, going to concerts, going to art museums, anything that stresses a creative part of my brain.
